Several years ago we had the occasion to meet Barry Rednor and his lovely wife Beve. Alan spent quite a bit of time with them at their home and was amazed at what Barry had managed to keep from his WHA days. Barry served on the Board of Directors for the New York Raiders who became the New York Golden Blades and then the New Jersey Knights. Through this affiliation, Barry had the occasion to collect numerous items from the Raiders, Golden Blades, Knights and the WHA in general. The stories that Barry shared with Alan were priceless, and really shed plenty of light on the early years of the WHA. Sadly, Barry passed away not long after we had gotten to know him. He is missed. It is with great admiration that we offer this item direct from Barry Rednor’s personal collection.
This New York Raiders felt banner measures approx. 6 x 3 feet and was proudly hung during Raiders home games played in Madison Square Garden during the 1972-73 WHA season, the first for the WHA. It is blue felt with orange felt in each corner. There is also orange felt spelling out "Go Raiders". The Raiders, an original WHA franchise, existed for only the 1972-73 season with the league taking over the franchise midway through the season. The banner is in beautiful condition.
