Tretiak made his debut with CSKA Moscow in 1968-69 and played for 16 seasons, going onto become one of the greatest goaltenders in hockey history. He was one of the 6 players named to the IIHF’s Centennial All-Star Team. Tretiak became world renowned, leading the Soviet Union to 3 Olympic Gold Medals and 10 Gold Medals at the World Championships spanning 1970-83. Tretiak was between the pipes in the 1972 and 1974 Summit Series, the 1976 and 1981 Canada Cups as well as the 1979 Challenge Cup and numerous Super Series games including the New Year’s Eve Classic in 1976 at the Forum in Montreal. Back at home, Tretiak made his Red Army team unstoppable. He was named First All Star consecutively each year from 1971-84. In those 14 seasons, his Red Army club won 13 league titles as Tretiak captured 5 League MVP Awards. In 1989, Tretiak became the first Soviet player born and trained outside North America inducted to the Hockey Hall of Fame.
