Steve Smith Edmonton Oilers Victoriaville Game Used Stick
Lot #438
This Victoriaville Ultra Vic 4050 hockey stick was game used by Steve Smith while playing for Edmonton Oilers. The Edmonton Oilers selected this native of Glasgow, Scotland in the 6th round of the 1981 NHL Entry Draft. Smith briefly cracked the Oilers lineup in 1984-85, when he played in 2 games. The next season would prove to be a memorable rookie campaign for this defenseman. Steve represented the 2-time defending Cup Champs in 55 regular season games as well as 6 more in the playoffs in 1985-86. It was the last playoff game that year that will live forever in the minds of Edmonton fans as Smith inadvertently scored into his own net sending the Oilers down in defeat at the hands of their bitter rivals the Calgary Flames.

Smith and the Oilers regrouped and won the Stanley Cup in 3 of the next 4 seasons. Edmonton began cleaning house in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s and Smith suffered the fate of many of his former teammates. Following the 1990-91 season, he became a member of the Chicago Blackhawks. Smith skated in the Windy City for the next 6 years before returning to Alberta where he finished his career with 3 seasons in Calgary. In 804 games, Smith scored a very respectable 375 points and played in an NHL All Star game. His rugged style of play is evident when viewing his penalty minute totals. His single season career high total in Edmonton came in 1987-88 with 286 PIMS. He topped that in 1991-92 with Chicago when he amassed 304 PIMS! In his 804 career games he accumulated 2139 PIMS.

This Victoriaville hockey stick has the player number and name “5-S. Smith” stamped on the side. The stick is fully taped on the butt and blade. It is uncracked and in beautiful condition.
