Description
Steve Penney Montreal Canadiens Red Louisville Game Used Stick
Lot #517
This red Louisville hockey stick was game used by Steve Penney while playing for the Montreal Canadiens. The Montreal Canadiens selected Penney in the 8th round of the 1980 NHL Entry Draft. After a late season call-up and appearing in a mere 4 regular season contests, Penney became the man between the pipes as the Canadiens stormed through the 1984 playoffs. He appeared in 15 games and won 9 of them, 3 by way of shutout while posting a 2.20 GAA. It was the New York Islanders dynasty that finally defeated the Canadiens in the Conference Finals, a mere step away from the Stanley Cup Finals. Penney was solid the following season as he started 54 games and posted 26 Wins against 18 Losses and 8 Ties while earning All Rookie honors. In a twist of fate, Patrick Roy showed up to challenge Penney for his job the next year and the rest as they say is history. While Penney was part of Roy’s Cup winning team in 1986, he was dealt to Winnipeg the following season. Unfortunately his career was never the same. After only two seasons with Winnipeg he announced his retirement.

This red Louisville hockey stick has the player and number “Penney 37” on the side. The stick is fully taped on the butt and blade. It is date stamped "NOV 30 1984". The stick is uncracked and in beautiful condition.
