Gonchar was a 20-year veteran who was among the steadiest defenseman of his generation. He spent the first 10 seasons of his career in the nation’s capital, where he was consistently among the goal leaders of all NHL defensemen. After a short stop in Beantown, Sergei joined the Penguins where he prospered for 5 years. Gonchar then inked a 3-year deal with the Senators before joining the Dallas Stars for the 2013-14 season. His final season, 2014-15, was split between Dallas and the Monreal Canadiens. During his career he made three trips to the Cup Finals, once with Washington and twice with the Penguins where he walked away victorious in 2009. Sergei represented team Russia in two World Cups of Hockey, numerous World Championships and in three Olympic Games. He is a 2-time 2nd Team NHL All Star and partook in 5 NHL All Star games.
