GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to present The Rick Wamsley Collection. This exciting collection of game used equipment and memorabilia comes directly from the personal collection of NHL goaltender, Rick Wamsley. Mr. Wamsley personally collected and preserved these items that span his days from juniors through his lengthy NHL career. A signed letter from Mr. Wamsley will accompany your purchase.

This white Sher-Wood hockey stick was game used by Rick Wamsley while playing for the Calgary Flames. The Montreal Canadiens selected Wamsley in the 3rd round of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. This Simcoe, Ontario native made his NHL debut in 1980-81 with Montreal, his home for four seasons. Wamsley’s 1981-82 Rookie season saw him post the NHL’s 2nd best GAA at 2.75 GAA and finish with the NHL’s 2nd best shutouts total. Wamsley captured the inaugural 1981-82 William M. Jennings Trophy, finished 6th in voting for the Calder Trophy and 5th in voting for the Vezina Trophy.

In the summer of 1984, Montreal dealt Wamsley to the St. Louis Blues, his home for four seasons. The 1985-86 season saw the Blues advance to Game 7 of the Conference Finals only to fall to the Calgary Flames by the score of 2-1, perhaps the toughest defeat of Wamsley’s career. However, it was Game 6 that lives in infamy for Blues fans, many who consider it the greatest game in franchise history. With Wamsley between the pipes on home ice in Game 6, St. Louis won an overtime thriller to force a 7th Game in what is known as “The Monday Night Miracle”.

At the deadline in 1988, St. Louis and Calgary pulled off a blockbuster that saw Wamsley and defenseman Rob Ramage head to Calgary in exchange for Brett Hull. The trade worked out well for Rick, as just a year later he and the Calgary Flames won the 1989 Stanley Cup! It was the only Stanley Cup Championship of Wamsley’s career. Wamsley proved instrumental to the team’s fortunes during the 1988-89 season as he shared the goaltending duties with Mike Vernon. Wamsley posted 17 Wins, two by way of shutout and added four Ties against only 11 Losses in 35 games played to go along with a 2.96 GAA, the 5th best GAA in the NHL that season. Following parts of five seasons with the Flames, Wamsley was involved in yet another blockbuster trade in the winter of 1992. This time, Wamsley, along with Doug Gilmour and others were dealt to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Rick played in Toronto for two years after which he announced his retirement following a 13-year NHL career.

This white Sher-Wood stick has the player name “Wamsley” stamped on the side. The stick is fully taped on the butt and blade. It is team signed by 22 members of the 1990-91 Calgary Flames including Rick Wamsley, Mike Vernon, Rick Lessard, Gary Roberts, Gary Suter, Joel Otto, Matin Simard, Sergei Makarov, Ron Stern, Carey Wilson and Jim “Bearcat” Murray. The stick is uncracked and in beautiful condition and comes directly from the personal collection of Rick Wamsley and will be accompanied by his LOA.
