This white Canadien Pro Fibreglass hockey stick was game used by Whalers Captain Rick Ley. Ley was drafted by the Toronto Maple Leafs in the 1966 NHL Amateur Draft. Rick joined the Leafs for the 1968-69 season and played in Toronto for 4 seasons before joining the New England Whalers of the WHA for their inaugural season of 1972-73. Ley was with the Whalers for all of their 7 WHA seasons, moving with the team to Hartford for his last 2 years of 1979-80 and 1980-81, back in the NHL. Rick spent 6 seasons as Captain of the Whalers and his jersey #2 is one of only 3 retired by the team joining Gordie Howe and John McKenzie. When Rick’s playing days were over he joined the coaching ranks, first coaching in the IHL, as well as an assistant coach and head coach in the NHL.
This white Canadien stick has the player name “Ley” stamped on the side. The stick is fully taped on the butt. There is no tape on the blade. The stick is date stamped “4 NOV 1980”. It is uncracked and in beautiful condition.
