The Montreal Canadiens selected Martyniuk with the 5th overall pick in the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft. Martyniuk’s playing career spanned the entire decade of the 1970’s, where he stood between the pipes primarily in the AHL, IHL and CHL. After backstopping the Montreal Voyageurs and Baltimore Clippers of the AHL, Martyniuk spent several years in the Seals system, playing for the Columbus Golden Seals and Owls as well as the Salt Lake Golden Eagles. During this era, Martyniuk spent his pre-seasons vying for an NHL roster spot. Martynuik died in October of 2013 at the age of 63.
