Philadelphia Flyers vs. CCCP Game Program + 1 Ticket Stub 1/11/1976 Rare
Lot #740

This stunning program and ticket stub commemorates the Super Series ’76 game between the Soviet Red Army and the defending Stanley Cup Champion Philadelphia Flyers held on January 11, 1976 at the Spectrum in Philadelphia.

The game pitted the Philadelphia Flyers, who were the defending Stanley Cup Champions vs. the Soviet Red Army, who many considered the greatest hockey team on the planet. The game was part of Super Series ’76 and was played at the Philadelphia Spectrum. The Soviets has already beaten the New York Rangers and Boston Bruins, and tied the Montreal Canadiens in the New Year's Eve Classic, that are also featured with a program and ticket stub in the Auction before going into their final game in the series. In their final game, the Red Army team was totally dominated by the Flyers and suffered a 4-1 defeat despite the Flyers not having Bernie Parent available for the game. So dominating was the Flyers performance that, after a hard hit by Flyers defenseman Ed Van Impe to Soviet star Valeri Kharlamov, which left him prone on the ice, the Soviets left the ice in protest. Only after being told they would not be paid unless they finished the game, did the Soviets return. Although the “Broad Street Bullies” were not beloved in other NHL cities, they were praised by all of North America as the only team to take down the Soviets. The program is in spectacular virtually mint condition while the ticket stub, despite being creased, has great eye appeal. This rare program and ticket stub combo would make a great addition to your international collection.
