Description
Paul Shmyr Hartford Whalers White Canadien Game Issued Stick
Lot #661
This white Canadien 6001 hockey stick was issued for use by Paul Shmyr while playing for the Hartford Whalers. Shmyr was a solid defenseman who played in the NHL for the Blackhawks and Golden Seals before jumping to the WHA in their inaugural season of 1972. Paul played four seasons with the Cleveland Crusaders before finishing his WHA career with stints in San Diego with the Mariners and the Edmonton Oilers. Paul then finished his career back in the NHL with two seasons in Minnesota and a final season in Hartford. While Paul was in Minnesota, he was named team Captain and led the North Stars to the semi-finals in 1980 and the Stanley Cup Finals in 1981. Best known for his time in the WHA, Paul was a WHA First Team All Star in 1973, 1974 and 1976 and a WHA Second Team All Star in 1979. He finished his WHA career third all-time in games played and represented Team Canada in the 1974 Summit Series. Paul was one of only two players, the other being Bobby Hull, who was invited to try out for Team Canada for the 1976 Canada Cup. He is member of the WHA Hall of Fame. Unfortunately, Paul died of throat cancer in 2004 at the age of 58.

This white Canadien stick has the player name “Shmyr” stamped on the side. It is date stamped “6 OCT 1981”. The stick is un-taped and shows no use. It is uncracked and in beautiful condition.
