This black & blue blocker and catcher by CCM were game worn by Olaf Kolzig while playing for the Washington Capital during the 2001-02 NHL Season. The Washington Capitals selected Kolzig in the 1st round of the 1989 NHL Entry Draft. Olaf would go on to become the most successful goalie in Capitals history, backstopping the club for 16 seasons and winning better than 300 games during his career. “Olie The Goalie” led the Caps to the Stanley Cup Finals for the first time in their history in 1998. He captured the Vezina Trophy as the league’s best goaltender in 2000 and the King Clancy Memorial Trophy in 2006. This two-time NHL All Star Game participant was also named 1st Team NHL All Star in 2000. On the international scene, Kolzig represented Germany in numerous World Championships, 2 World Cups of Hockey and 2 Olympics. “Olie” won his first Stanley Cup Championship as the Capitals Goalie Coach in 2017-18.
