This red mesh gamer by Koho was worn by Sergei Makarov circa 1983-87. Makarov is one of 6 honored members of the IIHF’s Centennial All Star Team. Sergei played RW on the famed “KLM” line, considered one of hockey’s all-time greatest lines along with Vladimir Krutov and Igor Larionov. Makarov carved out a legendary career behind the Iron Curtain with the Soviet National Team beginning in the late 1970’s. This gifted winger won Gold at the 1977 and 1978 World Junior Championships. He then went on to capture 8 Gold Medals at the World Championships spanning 1978-91. Sergei also competed in 3 Olympics spanning 1980-88 where he won 2 Olympic Gold’s, 3 Canada Cup’s, Rendezvous 87 and other competitions including the Super Series’ in North America. Sergei was named to the Soviet League All Star Team 10 times, was the Soviet Player of the Year 3 times and was a 9-time winner of the Izvestia Trophy as the Soviet League scoring champion.

The Calgary Flames selected Makarov in the 12th round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Makarov made his NHL debut in 1989-90 with Calgary at the age of 31. He spent 4 seasons with the Flames, two more with San Jose and a final stint with the Dallas Stars. Makarov won the 1989-90 Calder Trophy as NHL Rookie of the Year. He was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2001 and joined the Hockey Hall of Fame with the class of 2016.

The game wear on this size XL sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, washed out bloodstains, material pulls and fine inner pilling. On the back player number is a black sharpie signature in Makarov’s own hand. Makarov would have worn this jersey during the span of time dating between 1983-87. During this period, the Soviet National Team “CCCP” wore these jerseys while competing in the following international competitions: the 1983 World Championships, the 1984 Canada Cup and Rendezvous ’87, to name a few. A spectacular well-worn offering from the height of this Hall of Famer’s legendary career when the mighty Soviet Union were flexing their hockey muscles, led by Makarov and his KLM linemates, choice!
