Mid 1980's John Kordic Sherbrooke Canadiens Game Worn Jersey
Lot #40

This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by John Kordic during the 1986-87 AHL season. Kordic died a tragic death in 1992, his final season being 1991-92 while a member of the Quebec Nordiques. John had legions of fans, and was one of the game’s premier enforcers.

In 1985-86 Kordic had his first regular season callup to the NHL which lasted only 5 games. The Canadiens decided they wanted his on ice presence for the playoff run and Kordic played 18 games en route to a Stanley Cup championship as rookie. The following season John split time between Sherbrooke and Montreal, eventually landing a full time NHL gig. 1986-87 would be his last minor league season, and therefore this is his final minor league sweater. Kordic dressed for 244 regular season NHL contests amassing just shy of 1000 PIMS.

After wearing #24 for his entire AHL career, John requested #31, his number with the Canadiens, upon returning to Sherbrooke in 1986-87. This easily dates this sweater to John’s final minor league stint. He appeared in only 10 games for Sherbrooke in 1986-87. The game use is as one would expect based on the light number of games played. There are stick marks, board burns, sweat and bloodstains, pilling and plenty of salt on the fight strap. A plate change on back is consistent with the request for a new number. Nice goon jersey of this hard to come by tragic figure.
