Lot #272
GAMEWORNAUCTIONS.NET is pleased to present The Michel Goulet Collection. This exciting collection of game worn jerseys, game used sticks, game worn equipment and memorabilia come directly from the personal collection of Hockey Hall of Famer, Michel Goulet. Mr. Goulet personally collected and preserved these items over the course of his legendary NHL career. A signed letter from Mr. Goulet will accompany your purchase.

Michel Goulet was presented this plaque trophy for his participation in the 1987 Canada Cup. The Quebec Nordiques selected Goulet in the 1st round of the 1979 NHL Entry Draft. This Quebec native made his professional debut in 1978-79 with the WHA’s Birmingham Bulls. When NHL expansion ensued the following year, Goulet made his NHL debut in 1979-80 with the Quebec Nordiques.

Goulet was among the finest Left Wingers of his generation, and in NHL history for that matter. He netted a spectacular 548 goals and 1152 points during a 15-year NHL career. Michel’s goal totals from the period of 1981-82 thru 1987-88 is an impressive read; 42, 57, 56, 55, 53, 49 and 48 respectively. He was a five-time 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star who also played in five NHL All Star Games. Goulet represented Team Canada during the World Championships, the 1984 and 1987 Canada Cup and also represented Team NHL during Rendezvous ’87. Following 11 seasons with the Nordiques, Goulet joined the Chicago Blackhawks and soon after led them on an epic run to the 1992 Stanley Cup Finals. Merely two seasons later, Michel suffered a vicious head injury during the latter stages of the 1993-94 season, putting a sudden end to his Hall of Fame career.

This plaque measures approx. 11 inches high. The silver half maple leaf is mounted on a wood base with the medal plate on the bottom that reads “Coupe Canada Cup”. While the silver leaf is in nice condition, the wood base and bottom plate have scratches.

The 1987 Canada Cup was played August 28-September 15, 1987. This round-robin tournament featured Team Canada, Team Soviet Union, Team USA, Team Sweden, Team Czechoslovakia, and Team Finland. Team Canada finished the round-robin portion seated 1st with the Soviet Union only one point behind. Team Canada defeated Team Czechoslovakia while Team Soviet Union defeated Team Sweden in the Semi-Finals. The Finals were a best of three with Team Soviet Union defeating Team Canada 6-5 in overtime in Game 1. In game 2, the opposite took place, with Team Canada beating Team Soviet Union 6-5 in overtime. Incredibly enough, Team Canada also took Game 3, 6-5, although overtime was not needed, to win the Canada Cup. The leading scorer and tournament MVP went to Wayne Gretzky. This fresh to the hobby example comes directly from the personal collection of Michel Goulet and will be accompanied by his signed LOA.
