Mark Johnson Hartford Whalers White Canadien Game Issued Stick Miracle on Ice Alum
Lot #650

This white Canadien 6001 hockey stick was issued for use by Mark Johnson while playing for the Hartford Whalers. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Johnson in the 4th round of the 1977 NHL Amateur Draft. After playing 3 seasons of college hockey at the University of Wisconsin where he won a National Championship and was later inducted into their Hall of Fame, Johnson attended tryouts for the 1980 US Olympic Team. Not only did Johnson make the team, but he was also their best player. During the 1980 Pre-Olympic schedule, Johnson scored 33 Goals and 81 Points in 53 games played. He of course followed that up with 5 Goals and 11 Points to lead the team in scoring during the 7-game 1980 Lake Placid Olympic schedule as Team USA performed The Miracle on Ice and captured the Gold Medal. Johnson, who is the son of legendary coach “Badger Bob” Johnson, joined the Pittsburgh Penguins following the 1980 Olympics and spent parts of 3 seasons with the club before spending a partial year with Minnesota. Mark next skated in Hartford for 3 seasons, spent a partial year with the Blues and completed his 11-year NHL career with the New Jersey Devils where he played for 5 seasons. Johnson was an NHL All Star who was awarded the 2011 Lester Patrick Trophy. Mark represented Team USA in numerous World Championships, 3 Canada Cups and of course the fabled 1980 Olympic games. In 1994 Mark was inducted into the USA Hockey Hall of Fame.

This white Canadien stick has the player name “M Johnson” stamped on the side. The stick is un-taped and shows no use. It is uncracked and in beautiful condition.
