This Koho Silverfibre hockey stick was issued for use by Mark Howe while playing for the Hartford Whalers. The Boston Bruins selected Howe in the 2nd round of the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. Mark Howe’s illustrious career spanned 22 seasons, the first 6 of those were spent in the WHA as a teammate of his legendary father Gordie and brother Marty. In 426 WHA games, Mark tallied a lofty 504 points, leaving his mark as one of the WHA’s all time best. His NHL career was no less impressive. In 929 games this defenseman banked 742 points leaving his career points total in excess of 1200. He was among the highest scoring defenseman of his era and has finally been recognized with a most deserving induction to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Mark was 3 times a 1st team NHL All Star and was 2 times a 1st or 2nd team WHA All Star. He played in 4 NHL All Star games, 4 WHA All Star games and was the recipient of the Lou Kaplan Trophy in 1974 as the WHA’s rookie of the year. Howe also nabbed the 1986 NHL +/- award. Most would be surprised to find out that Howe’s year-by-year goal totals in the WHA years that he played in 70+ games read 38, 36, 39, 30 and 42. His career best for points came in 1978-79 with the Whalers, when Mark rang up an impressive 107 points.

Howe joined the NHL along with his New England Whalers teammates, as they became the Hartford Whalers in 1979-80 following the collapse of the WHA. After a few impressive NHL seasons with Hartford, Mark joined the Philadelphia Flyers and proved to be a key piece to their puzzle. His leadership and stellar play from the blueline helped the Flyers to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1985 and 1987, where they fell short both times to the Edmonton Oilers dynasty. Howe completed his Hall of Fame career in Detroit, the city in which he was born.

This Koho stick has the player name “Mark Howe” stamped on the side. It is date stamped “OCT 27 1981”. The stick is un-taped and shows no use. It is uncracked and in beautiful condition.
