Lot of 2 Barry Ashbee Memorial Golf Tournament Pin Flags 1980 & 1981
Lot #554
These pin flags proudly flew during the 1980 and 1981 Barry Ashbee Memorial Golf Tournaments. After playing for 3 seasons in the EPHL, Ashbee joined the AHL Hershey Bears in 1962-63. He played in the AHL for 8 seasons, all with Hershey, with the exception of a 14 game stint with the Boston Bruins in 1965-66. Barry joined the Philadelphia Flyers for the 1970-71 season and quickly became their best defenseman. In the 1973-74 Stanley Cup season, Barry was +52 and was named a 2nd Team NHL All Star. His career ended that season as he suffered a severe eye injury when he was struck in the face by a Dale Rolfe slapshot in the Semi-Finals series against the New York Rangers. The following year, Ashbee became an assistant coach with the Flyers, as they won their 2nd straight Stanley Cup.

In April of 1977, Ashbee was told that he had leukemia, he died the following month at the age of 37. His player number 4 was retired by the Flyers in October of 1977 and the Barry Ashbee Trophy is awarded to the best defenseman for the Flyers each season.

The 1980 Tournament was held at Frankford Torresdale Country Club while the 1981 Tournament was held at White Manor Country Club.
