Late 1980s Mike Foligno Sabres Game Worn Jersey
Lot #53

This home white knit gamer by CCM was worn by Mike Foligno circa the late 1980’s. Foligno was the 3rd overall selection in the 1979 NHL entry draft by the Detroit Red Wings. As a rookie in 1979-80, Mike netted 36 goals and 71 points serving notice to the league that he was the real deal. The following season he began putting his 6’ 2” frame to work, earning himsellf 210 PIMS.

Foligno was the key man in a mid season blockbuster trade during the 1981-82 season which sent him to Buffalo in exchange for Sabres heros such as Jim Schoenfeld and Danny Gare. In 1985-86 Foligno joined the 40-goal club, netting 41 while wearing the blue and gold. Mike would spend parts of 10 seasons with the Sabres before moving on to the Leafs and Panthers. In a career which saw him partake in 1018 regular season NHL games, Foligno scored 355 goals and earned himself 2049 PIMS.

The condition of this sweater so accurately represents the style of the player who wore it. The game use is solid consisting of many stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer and fine pilling. Fight abuse is also evident, the neck having been pulled and the stitches popped. The seam of the right wrist has separated and lest we not forget the blood stains, the obvious cause of this gamer being placed into retirement. There was a serious bleeder involved, causing blood stains on numerous areas of this fantastic old-time hockey relic.
