Late 1970ís Viacheslav Fetisov CCCP Soviet National Team Game Worn Jersey
Lot #45
This white mesh gamer by Kisapuku of Finland was worn by Viacheslav Fetisov circa the late 1970’s during international play while skating for the Soviet National Team. The New Jersey Devils selected Fetisov in the 8th round of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft. Slava spent the first 15 years of his Hall of Fame career playing in the Soviet Union for the Central Red Army and Soviet National Team. During that time he established himself as the greatest defenseman in the history of Russian hockey, earning numerous accolades and becoming Team Captain. Fetisov competed in numerous World Championships, four Super Series, Rendezvous ’87, two Canada Cups, the World Cup of Hockey and three Olympics including the 1980 Miracle On Ice Games at Lake Placid. With an astounding 13 Gold Medals to his credit, Slava is considered one of the best defenseman of all-time. In fact, Fetisov was the leading vote getter of the 6 players that were selected by the IIHF to the Centennial All Star Team!

Fetisov began his NHL career at 31 years of age. He spent 9 seasons in the NHL, splitting his time between the New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings, playing in a pair of NHL All Star Games during his tenure. In his three plus seasons with the Red Wings, Fetisov spearheaded the “Russian 5” and his leadership helped guide the team to 3 Stanley Cup Finals. He won back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 1997 and 1998 and retired after hoisting the Cup in the spring of 1998. Fetisov was deservingly enshrined to the Hockey Hall of Fame with the class of 2001.

The game wear on this size 56 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes and trauma, inner pilling and several team-sewn repairs. This vintage jersey was worn during the very early part of Fetisov’s career. A tremendous well-worn offering from the early days of this legendary Hall of Famer’s career while representing the Soviet National Team during the height of the Cold War in the late 1970’s, choice!
