Description
Late 1970's Don Awrey Colorado Rockies Game Worn Jersey
Lot #20

This home white knit and mesh gamer by Rawlings was worn by the Colorado Rockies circa the late 1970’s. Provenance exists as this jersey was acquired directly from Don Ashby by vaunted collector Ray Scoffins many years ago and hails from the Scoffins collection. Our research indicates that Don Ashby actually wore the player number 12 during his years with the Rockies. Players who wore the number 19 based on our research include Don Awrey (56 games) in 1978-79 as well as Nelson Pyatt (13 games) and Mike Dwyer (10 games) in 1979-80. We would surmise that this gamer was first worn by All Star defenseman Don Awrey and then perhaps was used again in 1979-80 where Pyatt and or Dwyer may have worn it. We suspect with a reasonable degree of certainty that the Ashby nameplate was added later.

Game wear is solid on this now long defunct Rawlings gamer. There are many stick marks, board burns, un-repaired burn holes, loads of the Rockies orange board paint transfer from the hometown boards and heavy inner pilling. This is a well worn example from this franchise’s short time in Colorado.
