Late 1960’s/Early 1970’s Cesare Maniago Minnesota North Stars Brown Kenesky Game Worn Pads – Letter of Provenance
Lot #404

According to the accompanying letter of provenance, these goalie pads can be traced back to the late 1960’s or early 1970’s. Cesare Maniago gifted these goalie pads to a close family friend as a birthday gift some 50 years ago. This Minnesota resident retained these pads until a couple of years ago when they were sold to a well known local collector, who is now making them available publicly for the first time.

We attribute these vintage goalie pads by Kenesky as having been worn by Cesare Maniago while playing for the Minnesota North Stars during the late 1960’s or early 1970’s. Maniago made his NHL debut with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1960-61. Cesare next suited up for the Montreal Canadiens during the 1962-63 season, playing in 14 games for the injured Jacques Plante. Several years passed before Maniago became an NHL regular in 1965-66 when he played two seasons with the NY Rangers. After being left unprotected by New York, the Minnesota North Stars selected Maniago as their first pick in the 1967 Expansion Draft. This began a run that saw Maniago spend 9 consecutive seasons between the pipes in Minnesota. Cesare completed his career in 1978 after a couple of final seasons in goal for the Vancouver Canucks.

These vintage goalie pads have been impeccably preserved since being gifted directly by Mr. Maniago a half century ago. A letter of provenance will accompany your purchase.
