Late 1950s/Early 1960s Len Lunde Detroit Red Wings Game Worn Wool Jersey - Photo Match
Lot #39

This home red wool gamer by Lippman’s Sporting Goods was worn by Len Lunde circa the late 1950’s/early 1960’s. Lunde, who stood 6 foot 185 lbs., began his NHL career in 1958-59 with the Detroit Red Wings. Lunde spent four seasons on Detroit’s LW before joining the Chicago Blackhawks for a couple of seasons. Len next became a member of the expansion Minnesota North Stars during their inaugural season in 1967-68 and then wrapped up his NHL career as a member of the expansion Vancouver Canucks squad in 1970-71. Following a season in Europe, Lunde returned for one final professional season with the WHA’s Edmonton Oilers in 1973-74.

As the 1950’s began, the NHL witnessed the dominance of the Red Wings who were led throughout the decade by Hall of Famers such as Gordie Howe, Terry Sawchuk, Ted Lindsay, Red Kelly, Sid Abel, Alex Delvecchio, Norm Ullman and Marcel Pronovost. Detroit appeared in 5 Stanley Cup Finals over a 7-year period to start the decade and walked away with 4 Stanley Cup Championships. The 1950’s are easily considered the best decade in franchise history.

Sewn into the collar of this gamer is the Lippman’s Sporting Goods and size tagging. Nice overall game wear adorns this size 46 wool with some board paint transfer, a few small un-repaired holes, heavy exterior pilling and fine inner pilling. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Lunde wearing this exact jersey during his time as a member of the Red Wings. A fantastic well-worn photo matched wool that sports tremendous eye appeal; still vibrant color has been impeccably preserved for the past 60 plus years, choice!
