These black hockey skates by Bauer were game worn by 1980 USA Gold Medalist and 4-time Stanley Cup winner Ken Morrow. The New York Islanders selected Morrow in the 4th round of the 1976 NHL Amatuer Draft. This Flint Michigan native spent 4 years at Bowling Green State University where he was 3-times a 1st Team CCHA All Star and once a 2nd team CCHA All Star. Morrow was also named the 1979 CCHA Player of the year. This amateur then joined the U.S. National Team in 1979-80 where he played in 56 games before trying out for the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team. Morrow made the team and played an integral role on the “Miracle On Ice” squad that eventually took home gold in Lake Placid during the 1980 Winter Olympics.
There would be no rest for Morrow who was immediately called into service by the New York Islanders. He played in 18 regular season games before starting a playoff journey that spring which turned into a dynasty a handful of years later. After 5 straight Stanley Cup Finals appearances, 4 Championship Rings and some rather timely goals, Morrow would play out the remainder of his NHL career with the Islanders in less dramatic fashion. All told Morrow spent a decade on the Islanders blueline, eventually succumbing to the knee injuries that plagued him throughout his career. During his era, Ken was considered among the best in the league in his own end of the ice. Kenny was awarded the Lester Patrick Trophy in 1996.
These black Bauer skates have the player number “6” written on them in black sharpie. Accompanying your puchase will be a letter from Ken who states that he recalls wearing these skates during one of the Islanders Finals series. Please note that the skates do not have laces.
