Johnny Bucyk Trophy Given To Him By Former Bruins Trainer Johnny Semple

This trophy was given to Bruins Hall of Famer Johnny Bucky by Johnny Semple on 3-28-1968.  John Bucyk played 23 NHL seasons for the Red Wings and Bruins.  Bucyk played his first two seasons for the Detroit Red Wings.  In a surprise move following the 1956-57 season, Bucyk was traded to the Boston Bruins for Hall of Fame goaltender Terry Sawchuk.  John remained in Boston for the next 21 years, retiring as the greatest goal scorer in Bruins history with 545 goals as a Bruin.  A record he holds to this day.

John was twice a first or second team All Star, Played in 7 All Star games, won 2 Lady Byng Memorial trophies, a Lester Patrick trophy and 2 Stanley Cups.  He retired the greatest point scoring left wing of all time and presently still stands second behind only Luc Robitaille.  John also holds the distinction of being the oldest 50-goal scorer in NHL history scoring 51 goals in 1970-71 at the age of 35.  Bucyk was inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1981.

Johnny "Jock" Semple was a physical therapist who worked for the Boston Bruins and Boston Celtics for over 40 years.  He had his training room and office at the Boston Garden.  He was affiliated with the Bruins starting in the 1950's and was officially the Bruins therapist starting in 1971.  He was the official trainer of the US olympic hockey team in the 1948 and 1952 winter Olympics.  Jock died in 1988.
