Description
John Ross Robertson Autographed Cut - The Broderick Collection - Deceased
Lot #437
John Ross Robertson was born on December 28, 1841 and passed away on May 31, 1918 at the age of 76. Robertson was a newspaper publisher and politician. He was elected to the Canadian House of Commons in 1896 and served at president of the Ontario Hockey Association from 1899—1905. Robertson was called the “father of Amateur Hockey in Ontario”. During his term as president, the OHA set rules defining professionalism in hockey, helping to rid hockey of increasing violence both on and off the ice. The championship trophy of the Ontario Hockey League, the J. Ross Robertson Cup, is still named in his honor. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1947. This is a very difficult autograph of which we've only seen a couple. We have not seen one come up at Auction in over 10 years.
