Description
John Matchefts 1956 Olympic Sweater and Game Worn Skates
Lot #295

This wool Team USA sweater and skates were worn by John Matchefts while a member of the 1956 Olympic team. Matchefts was a product of the University of Michigan in the early 1950's. He joined the US National team in 1954 and played on Team USA in the 1956 Olympic games held in Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy. The 1956 games are the first in which the Soviet Union appeared, winning the ice hockey gold medal in their first attempt. Matchefts's USA team took the silver, while Canada took the bronze.

The sweater has a Puritan Sportswear Corp. manufacturers label in the collar and blue and red USA on the front. This was the official sweater issued to all US National hockey team members that year.

The skates are CCM Prolite models with heavy game use. A great addition to any US or Olympic collector.
