Description
Gump Worsley Minnesota North Stars Autographed Wire Photo - Deceased
Lot #502
Gump played parts of 21 NHL seasons with the Rangers, Canadiens and North Stars and, when he retired, had played more games at goal then anyone except Terry Sawchuk and Glenn Hall.  He won the Stanley Cup with the Canadiens in 1965, 1966, 1968 and 1969 and won the Vezina trophy in 1966 and 1968. He was twice a first or second team NHL All Star and played in 4 All Star games.  He was one of the last two goaltenders to play without a mask, doing so until his final NHL season.  He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1980. Worsley suffered a heart attack on January 22, 2007 and died four days later at age 77.

This wire photo, dated December 8, 1971, shows Gump making a save and sitting on the puck in his home white North Stars uniform. The headline reads “STILL GOING STRONG—Minnesota North Stars’ goalie Gump Worsley sits on puck to stop play in recent National Hockey League game in the Twin Cities. Worsley, 42, leads the NHL with the best goals-against average of 1.36 while winning 7 of 12 games this early in the season. Worsley is a former New York Ranger and Montreal Canadian.”  The photo is in nice condition and the signature is beautiful.
