Description
Gerry Cheevers Boston Bruins Northland Game Used Stick - Autographed
Lot #674
This Northland Pro hockey stick was game used by Gerry Cheevers very early in his career while playing for the Boston Bruins. “Cheesie” started his career in the Maple Leafs organization playing 2 games for the Leafs in 1961-62. The Bruins drafted him in 1965, after being claimed in the summer Intra-League draft when Punch Imlach left him available, and became the Bruins number one goaltender for the 1967-68 season. After spending 7 seasons with the Big Bad Bruins, and winning 2 Stanley Cups, Cheevers jumped to the WHA and the Cleveland Crusaders for the 1972-73 season. After spending 3+ seasons in Cleveland, Cheevers came back to the Bruins in 1975-76 and played through the 1979-80 season.

Gerry played in the 1969 NHL All Star game and was a goaltender for the 1979 Challenge Cup team, which took the place of the 1979 All Star game as the NHL All Stars played a 3 game series against the Russians. He also played in the 1973 WHA All Star game (for which this trophy was given) and the 1974 Summit Series, which pitted the WHA All Stars against the Russians. He holds the record for the longest unbeaten streak by a goaltender, having played in 32 straight games without a loss during the 1972 season.

Cheevers might be best known for his mask. His iconic stitch-pattern mask is widely considered the greatest mask ever worn. After he retired, Cheevers coached the Bruins for 5 seasons. He also served as a color commentator for both the Hartford Whalers and Bruins.

This Northland hockey stick has the player name “Cheevers” stamped on the side. Both the “Northland Skis” and “Woody Dumart” stamps are on both sides. The stick is fully taped on the butt and paddle. The blade tape has been removed. Gerry has beautifully autographed the paddle. The stick is uncracked and in beautiful condition.
