Evgeni Malkin Pittsburgh Penguins Black Nike/Bauer Game Worn Glove – Autographed – Worn in 2007-08 Season – Sophomore Season – Mario Lemieux Foundation Letter
Lot #242
This black hockey glove by Nike/Bauer was game worn by future Hall of Famer Evgeni Malkin while playing for the Pittsburgh Penguins during the 2007-08 season, his sophomore season. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Malkin with the 2nd overall pick in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft. Malkin joined the Penguins in 2006-07 and began his career in style, winning the Calder Trophy as the NHL’s Rookie of the Year. During his sophomore season, Evgeni scored 47 goals and 106 points finishing second to Alex Ovechkin for the NHL Scoring title. Evgeni was named a finalist for the Hart and Lindsay Trophies for his outstanding work as a sophomore. Malkin’s efforts helped Pittsburgh to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2007-08 where they fell at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings.

The 2008-09 season would be different, as Malkin would overtake Ovechkin and win the scoring title, capturing his first Art Ross Trophy. His phenomenal work wasn’t complete. He would continue his torrid scoring throughout the playoffs and helped lead the Penguins to the Stanley Cup, being named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as playoff MVP with an amazing 36-point outburst in 24 games. Thus, Evgeni became the first-ever Russian born player to win the Conn Smythe Trophy.

After dealing with injury and a lengthy rehab over the following couple of years, this superstar winger was back in the fold in a big way. Evgeni had again become the Penguins go to man on the strength of a 50-goal and 109-point season in 2011-12 that earned him his second Art Ross Trophy. So good in fact was his 2011-12 season that Evgeni also won the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s MVP as well as the Ted Lindsay Award as the NHL’s most outstanding player. This 36-year-old is nearing the 500-goal plateau, has played in 7 NHL All Star games and has three 1st Team NHL All Star selections to his credit. Malkin has continued to average well in excess of a point per game during his 17-year NHL career. His future Hall of Fame candidacy was cemented by a pair of Stanley Cup titles for the Penguins bringing the number of Championships won during the Crosby Era to three! During that 3rd title run, Malkin lead the Penguins in Playoff scoring with 28 Points, edging Sidney Crosby by one point. In 2019, Malkin became the 88th NHL player to reach 1000 Points and now sits at over 1200.

This black Nike/Bauer left-handed glove has the player nickname and number “Mal 71” stitched on the cuff. Also on the cuff is the Mario Lemieux Foundation hologram and Evgeni’s autograph. The glove shows nice game use and will be accompanied by a Mario Lemieux Foundation letter.
