Eddie Giacomin & Gregg Sheppard Autographed Wire Photo
Lot #582

Perhaps the most beloved New York Ranger of all-time, Eddie guarded the pipes at Madison Square Garden for over a decade. Prior to the arrival of teammate Gilles Villemure, Eddie assumed a huge workload and led the league in games played for 4 consecutive seasons. He led the league on 3 different occasions in shutouts and ended his career with an impressive 54 of them. Eddie also led the NHL in Wins 3 different times.
Giacomin played in 6 different All Star games and was 5-times recognized as a 1st or 2nd team NHL All Star. To his credit is the 1971 Vezina Trophy. He earned himself a permanent place among the all-time greats in the Hockey Hall of Fame as well as a place in the hearts of all New York Ranger fans.
This wire photo, dated April 7, 1973 shows Giacomin allowing a goal to Gregg Sheppard in the 1973 Stanley Cup Playoffs. The headline reads "WRONG WAY, GIACOMIN! - New Your Rangers' goalie Ed Giacomin makes shoulder-level swat in the air Saturday as the puck sails past his knees into the cage in the 1st period of Stanley Cup playoff game at New York's Madison Square Garden. Goal was by Boston's Greg Sheppard and was the first in the game for the Bruins. Rangers were two ahead in the series, as the third game opened Saturday." The photo has been signed by both Giacomin and Sheppard. The photo is in nice condition and the signatures are beautiful.
