Early 1980s Indianapolis Checkers Game Worn Jersey Player #19
Lot #296

This road blue mesh gamer by Sandow SK was worn circa the early 1980’s by player #19 while skating for the CHL’s Indianapolis Checkers. The Checkers were the top farm team of the New York Islanders during their Dynasty of the early 1980’s. Indianapolis looked just like the Isles did on the ice, wearing the same style Sandow SK jerseys as their parent club. During the era, Bryan Trottier proudly wore the player number 19 on Long Island, a number that was eventually retired in homage to the Hall of Famer. The Checkers shared the Islanders success; sporting a team that was stocked full of talent waiting for the opportunity to play in the NHL. Indianapolis won back-to-back Championships in 1982 and 1983 before losing in the Adams Cup Finals in 1984, their last game in the CHL.

The game wear on this size XL sweater consists of stick marks, board burns, board pain transfer, nice collar pilling and inner pilling. Sewn to the inside back player number is the original blue and white striped old-school fight strap. These Checkers gamers have been a pretty tough style to find over the years and to our knowledge this is the first such example to appear at Major Auction. A nice Championship era gamer!
