Early 1980's Fernando Valenzuela Los Angeles Dodgers Game Worn Jersey
Lot #404

This home white knit jersey by Goodman & Sons was worn by Fernando Valenzuela during the very early part of his career. Valenzuela burst onto the scene in 1981, after a very successful late season call-up in 1980, where he pitched 17 2/3 shutout innings and won 2 games in helping the Dodgers to a Western Division title. If Dodger fans thought that was something, 1981 proved to me even more special. His rookie season saw Fernando start the season 8-0 with 5 shutouts and an ERA of 0.50, and Fernandomania was born. All told Fernando won 13 games in 1981, and became the only pitcher to ever win the Rookie of the Year and Cy Young awards in the same season.

Valenzuela pitched 10 years for the Dodgers before brief stays in 5 other MLB cities. On June 29, 1990 Valenzuela pitched a no hitter as the Dodgers defeated the Cardinals 6-0. He finished his career with 173 Wins, 6 All Star selections, a gold glove, 2 silver slugger awards, the previously mentioned Rookie of the Year and Cy Young awards and the 1981 & 1988 World Championships.

This jersey comes directly from the recently discovered Gunzo's collection. Offered here is Fernando’s home white Dodgers jersey that he wore at Chavez Ravine in the very early 1980’s. The jersey is in very nice condition with the manufacturers and size tag still sewn in the collar. An exciting new discovery brings this previously unknown gamer to the hobby, good luck in your pursuit.
