This road blue mesh gamer by Cosby was worn by Dave Maloney circa the early 1980’s during NHL play. The New York Rangers selected Maloney in the 1st round of the 1974 NHL Amateur Draft. This Kitchener native made his NHL debut in 1974-75 with the Rangers where he skated for parts of 11 seasons. During that span, Maloney made a trip to the 1979 Stanley Cup Finals in his first year as the Rangers Team Captain, an honor he held for several seasons. Maloney was traded to the Buffalo Sabres during his 11th and final NHL season. Many don’t recall how tough a player Maloney was. In 657 games played this fearless leader compiled 1154 PIMS.
Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the Captain’s “C”. The game wear on this size 52 sweater consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer and inner pilling. Sewn to the upper verso is the full player’s name; sewn inside is the stunted fight strap of the era while the player number six has been removed from both sleeves and lost to history. A nice old-school example that sports the coveted letter of honor and was worn by this tough-nosed defenseman during his brief time serving as the New York Rangers Team Captain.
