Early 1970's Eddie Giacomin Rangers Game Worn Jersey
Lot #1

This home white tie-down dureen gamer by Cosby was worn by Eddie Giacomin during the early 1970’s. Perhaps the most beloved New York Ranger of all-time, Eddie, wearing his now retired player number 1, guarded the pipes at Madison Square Garden for over a decade. Prior to the arrival of teammate Gilles Villemure, Eddie assumed a huge workload and led the league in games played for 4 consecutive seasons. He led the league on 3 different occasions in shutouts and ended his career with an impressive 54 of them. Eddie also led the NHL in Wins 3 different times.

Giacomin played in 6 different All Star games and was 5-times recognized as a 1st or 2nd team NHL All Star. To his credit is the 1971 Vezina Trophy. He earned himself a permanent place among the all-time greats in the Hockey Hall of Fame as well as a place in the hearts of all New York Ranger fans.

This vintage tie-down dureen gamer was worn by Eddie during the prime of his career in front of the hometown faithful fans at New York’s Madison Square Garden. This sweater shows solid game use including heavy inner pilling, blood stains which are a commonly found trait on goalie jerseys of this vintage and a couple of team sewn-repairs. The Cosby, wash and size tags all remain sewn perfectly intact on the inside hem of this dureen gamer.

The early 1970’s marked a time when NHL teams began experimenting with adding player names to their game jerseys. The Rangers were among the first teams to adopt the strategy during this era. Sewn on proudly, in individual two-color tackle twill letters, is the player name, Giacomin, high between the shoulder blades. A Giacomin gamer is among the toughest and most desired jerseys one could hope to obtain from this era. Being able to offer one with his name on back is quite a treat. This is a truly rare opportunity to acquire a gamer worn by this Hall of Fame great and New York Ranger legend.
