Description
Circa Late 1950s Detroit Red Wings Game Worn Wool Jersey Player #18
Lot #40

This road white wool gamer by Lippman’s Sporting Goods was worn circa the late 1950’s. Several players are listed wearing player number 18 during the late 1950’s including Pete Goegan, Gord Strate and Gus Mortson. As the 1950’s began, the NHL witnessed the dominance of the Red Wings who were led throughout the decade by Hall of Famers such as Gordie Howe, Terry Sawchuk, Ted Lindsay, Red Kelly, Sid Abel, Alex Delvecchio, Norm Ullman and Marcel Pronovost. Detroit appeared in 5 Stanley Cup Finals over a 7-year period to start the decade and walked away with 4 Stanley Cup Championships. The 1950’s are easily considered the best decade in franchise history.

Sewn into the hem of this gamer is the Lippman’s Sporting Goods tag. Sewn alongside is a now frayed size tag. Nice overall game wear adorns this vintage wool with stick marks, burns and un-repaired holes, inner pilling and some classic Detroit Red Wings styled team-sewn repair work. A wonderful wool example sporting terrific eye appeal, still vibrant colors and nice game use that is now more than 60-years removed from the ice, choice!
