Circa Late 1940's/Early 1950's Atlantic City Sea Gulls Game Worn Jersey - Player #4
Lot #299
This stunning maroon, white and blue gamer was worn circa the late 1940’s or early 1950’s during play in the old Eastern Hockey League by player number 4 of the Atlantic City Sea Gulls. The Atlantic City Sea Gulls existed as a franchise beginning in 1931-32 as an Independent. In 1932-33 they played in the TSHL before spending the remainder of their years in the Eastern Hockey League. They spent the years 1933-42 in the EHL before taking 5 seasons off due to World War II. The Sea Gulls made their return to the ice for the 1947-48 campaign before taking another season off in 1948-49. They returned to the ice for a final 3 seasons spanning 1949-52, also as part of the EHL. Worthy of mention is that Lenny Speck wore the player number 4 during Atlantic City’s final 3 seasons as a franchise, 1949-52.

Sewn to the inside hem of this gamer is the Cosby and size 48 tagging. The two-color felt player number 4 is sewn perfectly to the back of this vintage offering and remains in remarkable condition. The same can be said for the team name Atlantic City that is sewn on in maroon felt lettering. The puffy and vivacious felt Sea Gull that adorns the front is also in tremendous condition with only a few stitch pops worthy of noting. Some small un-repaired holes are accompanied by nearly a full couple of handfuls of team-sewn repairs that are found on the front, back and sleeves of this gamer. Shown above is a team photo of the Sea Gulls circa the late 1940’s. This exceedingly rare EHL sweater is one of only a scant few known to exist in the entire hobby and dates all the way back to the post World War II era of hockey. It has been nearly 70 years since this vintage jersey last saw the ice and it stands ready to become the centerpiece of your collection of vintage old-school hockey gamers, choice!
