Circa 1981 Al Secord Black Hawks Game Worn Jersey
Lot #31

This home white heavy dureen gamer by Gunzo’s and Coane was game worn by Al Secord during the early 1980’s. Al was Boston’s 1st round draft pick in 1978, going 16th overall and immediately joined Don Cherry’s imposing squad. He spent his first 2+ seasons in Boston before being dealt to Chicago during the 1980-81 season. He played for the Hawks for 7+ years and was at his most productive there, twice representing Chicago in the NHL All Star game.

Secord’s career lasted 12 seasons that were full of all kinds of highlights. Al was a 50-goal scorer, had a 300 PIM season and in excess of 2000 PIM during his career, placing him in a class by himself.

This heavy Gunzo’s and Coane dureen was originally used by longtime Black Hawks RW Cliff Koroll during the 1979-80 season, the last year of his career. As was customary during the early 1980’s in Chicago, trainer Lou Varga reused and recycled many of these dureens for use during the 1980-81 and 1981-82 Sandow era seasons as the Sandows were notably late in arriving to the team in both of those seasons.

Sewn perfectly into the collar are the Coane and Gunzo’s tagging. The game use consists of stick marks, board burns, board paint transfer, notable inner pilling and of course a customized fight strap. This gamer was worn during Secord’s most dastardly season as he netted 44 goals and racked up 303 PIMS while earning his first All Star appearance.
