This white Canadien Pro Fibreglass hockey stick was issued for use by Hall of Famer Brad Park while playing for the Boston Bruins. The New York Rangers made Park the 2nd overall selection in the 1966 NHL Amateur Draft. He made his NHL debut in 1968-69 with the Rangers, the team with whom he would spend his first 7+ NHL seasons. A blockbuster trade just 13 games into the 1975-76 campaign saw Park, along with Jean Ratelle, move to the Boston Bruins in exchange for Phil Esposito and Carol Vadnais.
Brad spent the next 8 seasons on the Boston blueline before heading to Detroit for a final 2 years. Park’s career has the unique distinction of his teams having gone to the playoffs in all 17 seasons that he took to the ice. Brad played in 9 consecutive NHL All Star games spanning 1970-1978 and was 7 times a 1st or 2nd Team NHL All Star. He found himself as the runner up for the Norris Trophy a record 6 times, having had the misfortune of playing in the same era as both Bobby Orr and Denis Potvin. Brad was the 1983-84 recipient of the Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy for the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey. Brad was also a key figure in Team Canada’s stunning 1972 Summit Series victory against the Soviet Union.
Park’s leadership qualities were always apparent, and he wore the Captain’s “C” with the Rangers in 1974-75 and 1975-76 leading up to his trade to Boston. He later provided a steady and calming influence for his Bruins teammates when deep playoff runs were the norm during the Don Cherry era and back-to-back-to-back playoff defeats at the hands of the Montreal Canadiens dynasty were all that stood between Boston and a bunch of Stanley Cup titles. Park’s 125 playoff points rank him high on the all-time list for defenseman. In a career that spanned 1113 games, Park tallied 896 points. This Hall of Fame defenseman was one of the finest of his or any generation.
