Lot #568

Beautifully preserved full program from the California Golden Seals 1971-72 season. Our consignor went to every game and had his programs signed personally. The program is scored inside. Our consignor would cut news articles and photos about the game from the newspaper the next day and tape them inside the magazine on pages that were used for advertising around the scorecard. The ticket stub from the game is also taped inside. None of the important parts of the book were covered. Also included is the original stat sheet given to season ticket holders before the game.
On the night of this game the Seals beat the North Stars 2-0 as Gilles Meloche's shutout outdueled Gump Worsley. The front cover is signed by Bill Goldsworthy next to his photo.
Goldsworthy played 14 seasons in the NHL for the Bruins, North Stars and Rangers. He also played in the WHA for the Oilers. Bill’s big break came during the 1967 expansion, when he was drafted from the Bruins by the Minnesota North Stars. Goldsworthy became an immediate starter with the North Stars showing his promise by scoring 8 goals and 15 points in 14 games as the North Stars came within a game of reaching the 1968 Stanley Cup finals. Starting with 1970, when he scored 36 goals, Bill scored 30 or more goals in five of the next six seasons. In 1974 he had a career best 48 goals. Goldsworthy served as team captain of the North Stars for two seasons starting in 1975 after the trade of Ted Harris. Bill played in four NHL All Star games and retired as the North Stars all time goal and point scorer. The North Stars retired his player #8 on February 15, 1992.
Goldsworthy died from complication from AIDS on March 29, 1996 at age 51.
