Description
Bernie “Boom Boom” Geoffrion Montreal Canadiens CCM Game Used Stick
Lot #411

This CCM Custom Pro hockey stick was game used by Hall of Famer Bernie “Boom Boom” Geoffrion towards the end of his playing days for the Montreal Canadiens. Bernie earned his nickname from the sound that his slapshots made when they rang off the boards. Geoffrion had a 16-year NHL career playing for the Canadiens and Rangers. Bernie won the Calder Cup trophy for the best rookie in the NHL after the 1951-52 season, the Art Ross trophy for leading the league in scoring in 1954-55 and 1960-61 and the Hart Memorial trophy as league MVP in 1960-61. He scored 50 goals in a season when it was exceedingly rare to do so and ended his career with almost 400 goals, a total not often seen in those days. He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972. Bernie's number "5" was retired by the Canadiens on March 11, 2006, the day he died. As an interesting sidebar, Bernie's wife, Marlene, is the daughter of Canadiens great Howie Morenz. Bernie's death came exactly 69 years to the day that his father-in-law Howie Morenz's funeral took place at the Montreal Forum.

This CCM hockey stick has the player name and number “Geoffrion 5” stamped on the side. Below that is the "McNiece's Montreal" stamp. The stick is fully taped on the butt and blade. It is uncracked and in beautiful condition.
