This green jersey by was worn by J.P. Parise during the Minnesota North Stars Reunion weekend from March 29, 2012 – March 31, 2012. Parise made his NHL debut with the Boston Bruins in 1965-66 and spent two seasons with the club before joining the Toronto Maple Leafs in 1967-68. Parise played briefly with Toronto before a trade sent him to the expansion Minnesota North Stars in December 1967. J.P spent the next 8 years playing in front of the hometown fans in Bloomington. During that time, Parise was selected to play in two NHL All Star Games, 1970 and 73.
J.P. had a strong season in 1969-70, finishing top 10 in the NHL in assists and points. In January 1975, the New York Islanders acquired Parise and he immediately made an impact on the young franchise. It was J.P.’s sudden death overtime goal at Madison Square Garden against the Rangers that gave the Islanders their first playoff series win. Parise and the Islanders came to within a game of the Stanley Cup Finals that spring before eventually bowing out to the defending Stanley Cup Champion Philadelphia Flyers in a dramatic 7-game Semi-Final round series. J.P. was excellent during the playoff run, scoring 8 goals and 16 points in 17 playoff games. Following parts of four years on Long Island, Parise finished up his career with the Cleveland Barons before playing one last season with the Minnesota North Stars.
The family tradition of hockey success continued on as Jean-Paul’s son’s Zach Parise went on to a highly successful NHL career of his own, while Jordan set records for his goaltending prowess at the University of North Dakota. Sadly the hockey world lost J.P. to Cancer in January 2015.
Sewn to the right shoulder of this size XL jersey is the “Back On Home Ice” Minnesota North Stars Reunion patch. On the North Stars crest is a beautiful black sharpie signature in Jean-Paul Parise’s own hand. Shown above is a beautiful photo of Parise wearing this green North Stars jersey during Reunion weekend in March 2012. A nice piece of Minnesota North Stars hockey history. This jersey will be accompanied by a North Stars Reunion letter.
