The Edmonton Oilers selected Yakupov with the first overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. This Russian native made his NHL debut in 2012-13 with the Oilers where he played for four seasons. Yakupov then spent a season each with the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche before returning to Russia. Yakupov has spent the past five seasons skating in the KHL.
