Lot #120

This blue air-knit gamer by Reebok was worn by Phil Kessel during the 2011-12 NHL season. The Boston Bruins selected Kessel with the 5th overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. After playing his college hockey at the University of Minnesota, this Madison, WI native began his NHL career with the Bruins in 2006-07. It was a tumultuous rookie season as Kessel was diagnosed with and overcame Cancer while missing only a dozen games! In recognition of his efforts, Phil was awarded the Bill Masterton Trophy. After just three years in Boston, the Maple Leafs acquired Kessel and he paid immediate dividends for the club. Kessel notched four consecutive 30+ goal seasons prior to the 2012-13 shortened schedule and then scored an impressive 37 goals in 2013-14. After 6 seasons with the Maple Leafs, Kessel joined the Pittsburgh Penguins and in his first year with his new club helped lead them to the 2016 Stanley Cup on the strength of 10 goals and 22 playoff points. Kessel and the Penguins completed the rare feat of back-to-back Stanley Cup titles in 2017 as he again lit up the playoff score sheets with 23 more points. Kessel has scored better than 350 goals and 800 points thus far in his career. Phil is a 3-time NHL All Star who has been a staple on Team USA’s roster, having competed in the World Championships and two Olympics, capturing Silver in 2010. In fact, after scoring 5 goals and 8 points in 6 games, Kessel was named the top forward for the entire 2014 Olympics in Sochi!

Proudly affixed to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. The game wear on this 1st set size 56 sweater consists of stick marks, board burns and inner pilling. Sewn to the inside hem is the official Toronto Maple Leafs game worn jersey tagging. As indicated on the Maple Leafs team letter, this was the jersey that Kessel was wearing on October 8, 2011 against the Ottawa Senators, as he notched his first career hat trick with the Maple Leafs. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Kessel celebrating one of his three goals from that very evening in front of the joyous hometown crowd! A terrific photo-matched offering, complete with a letter of honor that was donned as Kessel notched his first hat trick in a Toronto uniform and went on to produce a career best 37-goal season! This jersey will be accompanied by a Maple Leafs team letter.
