2009 Matt Niskanen Team USA World Championships Game Worn Jersey – Photo Match
Lot #203

This white swift gamer by Nike was worn by Matt Niskanen during the 2009 IIHF World Championships. The Dallas Stars selected Niskanen in the 1st round of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. This Virginia, MN native played his college hockey at the University of Minnesota-Duluth before making his NHL debut in 2007-08 with the Stars where he played for parts of four years before joining the Pittsburgh Penguins. Following parts of four years with Pittsburgh, Niskanen spent five seasons with the Washington Capitals where he celebrated the first Stanley Cup in franchise history in 2018. Matt joined the Philadelphia Flyers prior to the start of the 2019-20 season, his 13th year in the league.

Sewn to the sleeves of this gamer are the sponsorship patches. Light but obvious game wear exists on this size 60 sweater that includes stick marks and board burns. Team USA wore one set of white sweaters for four games spanning April 27, 2009 through May 8, 2009. All four of those games took place in Bern, Switzerland and included a pair of games against the Russians. Shown above is a beautiful photo match of Niskanen wearing this exact jersey during the 2009 IIHF World Championships. Sewn to the inside hem is the official USA game worn jersey tagging. Affixed alongside is the official Nike barcode. A nice photo matched example from the early part of Matt’s career.
