Nilsson spent his rookie year with the Islanders before spending his final 4 NHL seasons with the Edmonton Oilers. In 2010, Robert joined the KHL where he played for 3 seasons before joining the Swiss A league where he competed for five seasons before announcing his retirement in 2018.
