2008-09 Nicklas Backstrom Washington Capitals Game Worn Jersey - 2nd NHL Season - Photo Match Team Letter
Lot #115

This home red air-knit gamer by Reebok was worn by Nicklas Backstrom during the 2008-09 NHL season, his sophomore season. The Washington Capitals selected Backstrom with the 4th overall pick in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft. After spending several seasons in his native Swedish Elite League, Backstrom began his NHL career with the Caps in 2007-08. Backstrom has spent his entire 13-year NHL career with Washington where he has registered about a point per game over his nearly 1000 games played. Nicklas set career best totals in 2009-10 as he struck for 33 goals and 101 points, finishing 4th in league wide scoring. This NHL All Star is consistently among the league’s top set up men and has finished top three in assists in six different seasons, leading the NHL in 2014-15. Nicklas has also finished top 10 in scoring five times. The crowning achievement of his career was winning the 2018 Stanley Cup.

Proudly sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the alternate Captain’s “A”. The game wear on this 2nd set size 56 sweater is solid and consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, inner pilling and well in excess of a dozen team-sewn repairs. Shown above are a couple of beautiful photo matches of Backstrom wearing this exact jersey during the 2008-09 season. Sewn to the inside hem is the official NHL game worn jersey tagging. Backstrom was fantastic during his 2nd NHL season while wearing this sweater, striking for 22 Goals and adding 66 Assists for 88 Points, the second highest total of his All Star career. Those totals placed Backstrom 3rd overall in league wide assists and 9th overall in scoring. A terrific well-worn photo matched example, complete with the coveted letter of honor and worn by one of the NHL’s top set up men during his sophomore season. This jersey will be accompanied by a Capitals team letter.
