Description
2007-08 Brooks Orpik Pittsburgh Penguins Winter Classic Game Worn Jersey – “2008 Winter Classic” - Team Letter
Lot #175

This blue air-knit gamer by Reebok was worn by Brooks Orpik during the 2007-08 NHL season in the inaugural 2008 Winter Classic. The Pittsburgh Penguins selected Orpik in the 1st round of the 2000 NHL Entry Draft. After playing his college hockey at Boston College, this San Fransisco, CA native joined the pro ranks and began his NHL career with the Pens in 2002-03, where he played in a total of 6 games. Brooks became a regular for Pittsburgh in 2003-04 and became a fixture on the team’s blueline all the way thru 2013-14. Brooks has spent the past handful of seasons with the Washington Capitals. This 15-year veteran has eclipsed the 900 game plateau and has played in 2 Stanley Cup Finals, walking away with the 2009 Stanley Cup, the first of the Crosby era in Pittsburgh.

The NHL made history on New Years Day, 2008 as the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres squared off for the first time ever outdoors in a regular season NHL game in the United States. The inaugural Winter Classic took place at Ralph Wilson Stadium and lived up to its name as better than 71,000 fans, the largest crowd to ever attend an NHL game to date, braved inclement conditions to witness history on that snowy cold day in Buffalo. Pittsburgh won the game on a Sidney Crosby shootout goal by the score of 2-1.

Sewn to the right breast of this gamer is the 2008 Winter Classic patch. The game wear on this 1st period size 56 sweater is on the lighter side as would be expected with a board burn and subsequent un-repaired burn hole on the left elbow most worthy of mention. Pittsburgh unveiled this blue throwback styled jersey for the first time since wearing a circle crest gamer in the early years of the franchise. On the fight strap is a blue sharpie signature in the equipment man’s own hand. Sewn to the inside hem is the official NHL game worn jersey tagging. Sewn alongside is the official Pittsburgh Penguins game worn Winter Classic tagging. A beautiful piece of NHL history, worn during the 1st period of the NHL’s inaugural Winter Classic. This jersey will be accompanied by a Penguins team letter.
