After playing his college hockey at the University of Maine, Ryan began his professional career in the AHL with the Syracuse Crunch in 2004. During his 5 seasons in the AHL, Ryan was called up to the Vancouver Canucks and played in an NHL game in the 2005-06 season. In 2008-09 this defenseman went to Germany to further pursue his career, playing the past 4 years in the DEL.
