2002 Alex Tanguay Team Canada Olympic Training Camp Worn Jersey
Lot #263

This white air-knit and mesh combo by Nike was worn by Alex Tanguay during the 2002 Team Canada Olympic Training Camp. The Colorado Avalanche selected Tanguay in the 1st round of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He joined the Avalanche organization late in the 1998-99 campaign when he appeared in 5 regular season and then 5 more playoff games with the Hershey Bears. Alex began his NHL career in 1999-00 with Colorado and spent the first 6 years of his career wearing the burgundy, blue and white colors of the Avalanche. During that span he won a Stanley Cup in only his 2nd NHL season, a year that saw him score 77 regular season points and 21 more in the playoffs. Tanguay then spent 4 of the next 6 seasons as a member of the Calgary Flames with single season stints in between with Montreal and Tampa. He returned to the Avalanche in 2013-14 and spent 3 more seasons with his original club before completing his career with the Arizona Coyotes. Tanguay ended his career with an impressive 863 points in 1088 career games and also appeared in the NHL All Star game in representation of the Avalanche.

Sewn to the back of this sweater is the “Respect” patch. The wear on this size 56 Nike jersey consists of stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes, material pulls and inner pilling. A beautiful black sharpie signature in Tanguay’s own hand can be found on the upper verso. Alex’s surname and number are sewn to the verso while the red, black and green Team Canada crest is sewn proudly to the chest. A nice international offering donned by this NHL All Star as he competed for a spot on the 2002 Team Canada Olympic Team.
