2002-03 Zach Parise University of North Dakota Game Worn Jersey – Rookie - “23-Ralph Engelstad” - Photo Match – Team Letter
Lot #244
This white dazzle cloth gamer by Nike was worn by Zach Parise during the 2002-03 WCHA season. The New Jersey Devils selected Parise in the 1st round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. This Minnesota native is the son of former NHL standout J.P. Parise and the younger brother of Fighting Sioux goalie Jordan Parise. Parise spent two seasons playing his college hockey at the University of North Dakota before beginning his professional career. Zach joined the New Jersey Devils in 2005-06 and spent 7 seasons with the team that drafted him. Zach then signed a 13-year $98 Million deal with the hometown Minnesota Wild in the summer of 2012 where he currently plays. Parise has burgeoned into an offensive force, and finished 3rd in league wide goal scoring a few years back with the Devils when he netted a career best 45. That same season saw him finish 5th in the Art Ross Trophy race with 94-points. Zach has five 30-Goal seasons already to his credit despite missing plenty of time due to injury. Parise is an NHL All Star and was named a 2nd Team NHL All Star in 2009. On the international stage, Zach has been an integral part of Team USA, playing in numerous World Championships and a couple of Olympics.

Parise’s time at the University of North Dakota spanned a mere two seasons, but were they ever impressive! He was named a Hobey Baker Award Finalist both years. Zach got things started off right by netting a Hat Trick in his first game at UND. Parise would finish his freshman season by leading the nation in rookie scoring with 26 goals and 35 assists for 61 points and placing himself 8th in the national scoring race. Zach was named WCHA Rookie of the Week 4 times and WCHA offensive Player of the Week once. He earned WCHA All-Rookie Team and All-WCHA Third Team honors for his stellar rookie season. His nomination for the Hobey Baker Award in 2003 marked the first time in Fighting Sioux history that a freshman was nominated for college hockey’s biggest honor. Zach next earned First Team All-American honors in addition to many others as a sophomore the following year and finished 3rd in the 2004 Hobey Baker Award voting.

Sewn to the left breast of this gamer is the Ralph Engelstad 23. This was in fact the only white sweater that Parise wore during his NCAA Rookie season! The game wear on this size 56 sweater is solid and consists of numerous stick and slash marks, board burns, board paint transfer, un-repaired burn holes and fine inner pilling. Shown above are a number of beautiful photo matches of Parise wearing this exact jersey during the 2002-03 season. This incredible offering marks the earliest known Parise gamer in the entire hobby. It was worn during Zach’s entire Rookie season at the University of North Dakota and is one of only 2 white Fighting Sioux gamers that Parise ever wore. This well-worn photo matched example features the coveted Ralph Engelstad patch and is easily the finest Parise Fighting Sioux gamer that exists. An incredible collegiate gamer that would become the instant cornerstone of any serious Fighting Sioux or college collection, choice! This jersey will be accompanied by a University of North Dakota team letter.
